What is TRT, and why might you need it?

Testosterone replacement therapy is a prescription treatment for testosterone deficiency, also called hypogonadism. It replaces testosterone when the body is not producing enough and there is a clinical reason to treat it.

You may seek advice because of a reduced sex drive, problems with erections, persistent tiredness, changes in mood or reduced muscle strength. These symptoms can have several causes, including sleep problems, stress, medicines and other health conditions. They do not, by themselves, mean that you need TRT.

Assessment combines your symptoms, medical history and blood results. Our team will also consider why testosterone may be low and whether lifestyle changes, treatment for another condition or specialist advice would be more appropriate. TRT is not a general treatment for ageing or tiredness.

Why choose Burwash Pharmacy?

For people considering TRT in Brighton & Hove, our service offers the opportunity to discuss concerns in person and return to our pharmacy for results and follow-up appointments.

  • Blood sample collection and results review at the pharmacy. Have your sample taken and discuss your results at Burwash Pharmacy
  • Free initial and subsequent consultations. Blood testing and any treatment have separate charges, which we explain before you proceed.
  • A clear ongoing-care plan. If treatment is appropriate, we agree on the monthly cost and explain how your progress will be monitored.

How our TRT service works

  1. Book an appointment. Arrange your initial consultation through our website, by phone or by email.
  2. Complete your pre-consultation form. We email a form for you to complete before your visit so that we can understand your symptoms, medical history and concerns.
  3. Attend your first appointment. We discuss the possible advantages and disadvantages of TRT. A blood sample is taken as part of the assessment; this is chargeable. We also arrange your next appointment.
  4. Discuss your results and agree on the next steps. At your second appointment, we review your blood results and pre-consultation information. Further testing, another assessment or a referral may be needed before a treatment decision can be made.
  5. Agree your care plan and monthly cost. If TRT is appropriate, we discuss the available options and agree on a personalised plan. You will know the price and what is included before signing up.
  6. Return for monitoring. If you start treatment, we plan a blood test review around three months later. Earlier checks or a different schedule may be needed for your treatment and health circumstances.

Testosterone blood tests in Brighton & Hove

Blood testing is an important part of assessing testosterone deficiency. Samples are taken at Burwash Pharmacy in Hove, and we arrange an appointment to explain your results.

When you book, we will explain the preparation needed, including any fasting instructions, and the charges that apply. Additional tests may be needed to investigate the cause of a low result. We explain any further testing before you proceed.

TRT options in Brighton & Hove, possible benefits and risks

There are different forms of testosterone treatment, including gels and injections. If TRT is appropriate for you, our team will explain the available options, their practical differences and which may suit your clinical needs.

For someone with confirmed testosterone deficiency, treatment may improve related symptoms, such as reduced sex drive. The response varies between individuals, and benefits need to be weighed against side effects and the commitment to ongoing monitoring.

Possible side effects include acne or oily skin, fluid retention and an increase in red blood cells. Gels can cause skin irritation and may transfer to another person through skin contact; injections may cause discomfort at the injection site. Our team will explain the precautions for any prescribed treatment.

TRT can reduce sperm production. Please tell us if you are trying for a baby or may want children in the future, so we can take this into account before agreeing on your treatment plan.

How much does TRT cost in Brighton & Hove?

At Burwash Pharmacy, the initial consultation and subsequent consultations are free. Blood tests and any prescribed treatment are chargeable.

If treatment is agreed, we explain your monthly plan, what it includes and any additional costs. We’ll explain whether monitoring blood tests are included in your monthly plan or charged separately.

Monitoring and what to expect from treatment

Follow up care checks how you are feeling, your blood results and any side effects. A blood test review is planned around three months after starting treatment, with earlier checks if needed and continued monitoring afterwards.

There is no single timetable or success rate that applies to everyone. Your response depends on the cause of your symptoms, the treatment prescribed and your individual health. Our team will review whether treatment is helping and may adjust or stop it if it is unsuitable.

Contact the pharmacy if you have concerns between appointments. Do not change your prescribed treatment without discussing it with us.

Questions about TRT

Is the first appointment completely free?

The consultation is free, but blood testing is chargeable. We explain the blood-test fee before taking your sample. Any prescribed treatment has a separate cost.

Will I be prescribed TRT after my blood test?

Not necessarily. Our team considers your symptoms, medical history and appropriate blood results together. Further tests, another approach or a specialist referral may be recommended.

Can medication be supplied on the same day?

Once treatment has been agreed and a valid prescription issued, medication may be supplied on the same day, subject to availability. This does not mean treatment starts at your first appointment: the assessment and blood results must be reviewed first.

Could lifestyle changes help instead of TRT?

Depending on the cause, changes to sleep, weight, activity or alcohol intake, or treatment for another health condition, may help. Your assessment considers these options. Supplements sold as testosterone boosters are not a substitute for investigating a suspected deficiency.

Is TRT the same as using anabolic steroids for bodybuilding?

Testosterone is an anabolic-androgenic steroid. Medical TRT uses prescribed treatment and monitoring to address a confirmed deficiency. This differs from using steroids without a clinical indication or at doses intended to enhance performance.

Can TRT affect fertility?

Yes. TRT can reduce sperm production and may not be appropriate if you are trying for a baby. Discuss current and future fertility plans before starting treatment.
